Early enrollment for Kindergarten

According to KRS 158.030(2), there is a new cutoff date starting next school year to enroll your child in Kindergarten. Beginning with the 2017-2018 school year, children must be (5) years of age as of August 1, instead of the October 1.

A waiver for children to start kindergarten who are not yet (5) years of age as of August 1, may be granted through the Petition for Early Enrollment Form process. Deadline to request this option is April 1, per district policy 09.121.

Your child will go through an evaluation process, which will give important information to the district about the best placement for your child.  Your child is required to pass with a 95% in all areas of the Early Screener Tool. Other factors to consider, other than student readiness, will be availability of funding and space. The district will use this information to decide whether to admit your child for early enrollment.

Please contact the school that your child will be attending in order to get this process started. Contact personnel for your school will be following…

Sherri Kissick, Owingsville Elementary (606-674-2722) or

 Beth Williams, Crossroads Elementary (606-674-2101).
