OES Principal Spends Night on OES Rooftop

OES Principal Mark Leet kept a promise to OES students, who recited the Readers Oath, by spending the night on the roof of Owingsville Elementary School on Monday, March 7.  Mr. Leet shared the picture above as proof of his adventure.  Mr. Leet promised that if at least 120 students recited the Reader's Oath, he would  spend the night on the roof.  The students more than met the challenge by the deadline last week with 137 students reciting. Mr. Leet was on the roof all night with staff, parents, and students driving by to honk or wave at him for support.  He greeted students and staff from the roof as they arrived at school on Tuesday, March 8.

Reader's Oath

I promise to read
Each day and each night.
I know it's the key
To growing up right.

I'll read to myself,
I'll read to a crowd.
It makes no difference
If silent or loud.

I'll read at my desk,
At home and at school,
On my bean bag or bed,
By the fire or pool.

Each book that I read
Puts smarts in my head,
'Cause brains grow more thoughts
The more they are fed.

So I take this oath
To make reading my way
Of feeding my brain
What it needs every day.
