Threat Against Our Schools: Resolved

On Sunday, October 24 around 10:45 pm the Bath County School District and the Owingsville Police Department were notified of a threat circulating on social media against our school district.

Thanks to the hard work of the Owingsville Police Department, our Bath County School Resource Officer, High School Administrators, District level employees, several teachers, and concerned parents/community members a quick resolution to this threat was achieved.

Here is what happened:  A threat was circulating on social media concerning a potential school shooting to take place at “Central High School”.  Schools across the country, including here in Kentucky, who have schools with Central in their title started receiving calls from concerned citizens.  As more people saw the post and commented on it the post began to be changed by those sharing it and it morphed into a threat against Bath County Schools.

The original person who sent the message has been identified and arrested.  There is no credible threat against Bath County Schools.  However, we will have an increased police presence at our schools today to show that we are serious about the safety of our students and staff.
